Mike's Profile:
I left school when I was just 15, I went to learn my chosen trade in a barber shop in Watford. By the time I was 18 I bought the shop from my boss and stayed there for 30 more years – in that time it was to become the busiest barber’s shop in Watford.
I decided I needed a change so I decided to sell the shop and I came to work in Kings Langley. A couple of years later I bought the shop with my business partner, we refurbished the shop and over the following 5 years it became a real success. I decided then to sell my share in the business and worked during the next 2 years working for various barbers shops in Hertfordshire, but the truth was I really was not happy working for someone else.
I needed a new challenge!!
Those 5 years in Kings Langley were my happiest so I started looking for another shop: it had to be in the High Street. Then this shop came onto the market and it was exactly what I wanted because it is such a nice building, the fittings and the layout of the shop were perfect for the new venture. We need to get the colour scheme just right – a great deal of thought went into and when all was finished ready for the big day of opening the doors for business I think I got it spot on!
It is so nice when customers tell me that it’s the best barber’s shop they have ever been in. I feel very proud of what I have achieved. I just can’t sit still or work for others and this new business fulfilled the need I had for a new challenge – and this was the best challenge yet! |
